YOUTHINASIA - E.P
Youthinasia are probably the best punk rock band I have heard in a while, (a while meaning a couple of months). If you love your big names such as NOFX, No Use For A Name and even a little bit of Blink 182, then forget them cause Youthinasia are better! Joking, but they have put some great songs in front of me, which match the class of these bands just mentioned. If you are into your punk rock with a sense of humour then this is for you, but if you’re into solemn melodies then this cd is also for you. If you don’t get into the music, you will at least have a smile about the front cover. Overall it is great listen and I reckon you should get a copy fast!

YOUTHINASIA - E.P
We all hear about bands who have a sense of humour, and that is one of the smartest things to have in the music industry, but Youthinasia not only have a sense of humour but accompanied by meaning, truthful and youthful music. While their name implies exactly that, songs about fictional characters named 'Jimmy Beaner' and the reminiscent 'One More Drink To Down The Drugs' are equalled by the meaningful songs about the current state of the music scene and socially aware 'Crossing Over'.
Forming in '99 the band obviously know the punk rock ropes, although it is sickening to hear Blink 182's sound creep in, even if it is for a couple of seconds.
Originally being released in 2004, the release had been doing so well in Australia, the D.I.Y label, Pee Records decided to re-release the D.I.Y EP, aptly titled E.P, with the [distro] help of Shock Records.
IN SUMMARY: Youthinasia are a catchy punk rock band who play punk rock music like it was intended, with a sense of humour, very little grace and extremely catchy.

YOUTHINASIA - E.P
For a flashback down Fat Wreck drive, circa late 90's check out Youthinasia. A bunch of Canadian's that sound like a mix of No Use For A Name, Lagwagon and all those bands that had the trademark Fat sound. It's pop punk, before the definition of pop punk seemed to be changed to suit cornball pop. Fast, melodic, catchy choruses, plenty of singalong parts in the six tracks on offer. A solid vocalist leads the punchy sound the band delivers, tidy guitar work too, check the solo on 'One More Drink To Down The Drugs', i think it's been far too long since someone unleashed a ripper like that one. 'The Solution' is probably the most instantly memorable track, but they all have their high points. Well worth a listen, brings back memories.

It’s pleasing to see there are still some refreshingly real bands out there. This is a mixed bag for me in a way – Youthinasia, in trying something “different” to most modern punk rock, have created a record of the same breed as a lot of punk bands in days gone by. Allow me to explain.
Highly uncomplicated, Youthinasia’s self-titled six-track EP is an intelligent punk rock record. The lyrics are fairly simple, however this means they are direct and easily understood, which is a good thing because this is a singalong record when it all boils down to it. It’s the kind of music you could play at any time, regardless of your mood, and the kind of music that punk rock has seen far too little over the past half decade.
I’m impressed by this CD because the main purpose of music for me personally, is to entertain. I guess this record would fall under the ever-broadening label of “punk”, but there’s a enough variation between each track to keep things interesting.
I won’t dissect each song, but I will say that this EP reminds me distinctly of a cross between Craig’s Brother, Lagwagon (back in the “Hoss” days), and I Against I. The vocals are quite smooth, and just a little nasal at times. After track two, which is the most left field of the lot, the album doesn’t really let up. It’s pacey, energetic and catchy, and well worth picking up.

In The MEANtime
YOUTHINASIA - E.P
I haven't had a punk CD such as this to listen for years, let alone review. Once a huge fan of bands such as No Use For A Name, No Fun At All, Lagwagon, Satanic Surfers, SNFU and many, many others falling under the melodic punk banner, YOUTHINAISA's new EP 'E.P.' is a damn fine example of the music I still have a soft spot for. Out now through great Aussie independent punk label PEE Records; this EP contains six solid tracks from this great Canadian quartet. In a huge melodic style similar to the above mentioned bands, Youthinasia has added awesome melodic punk and hardcore elements of today and produced an outstanding release. Track 1 'Jimmy Beaner' is what you'd expect from a great melodic punk band; beginning with a NOFX-type riff and vocals alone for the first eight bars before drums kick in, it soon launches into some good ol' melodic punk complete with your standard hic-up punk beat and huge contagious punk riff together with awesome vocal harmonies. It breaks down at exactly 1:58 minutes with a heavier solid riff and chanting vocals before again bursting back into what'll be humming in your head for the next ten days! Track 2 'The Solution'; a song about the song itself, is an addictive track that sounds not unlike Guttermouth to a certain extent but a lot more complex in structure with plenty of changes within the 2 and a half minutes. The remainder of the EP is more of the same huge melodic punk riffs, terrific drumming and huge harmonious vocals, although pace differs a little such as with track 3 'Same Song' and 5 'Remember when' being a lot faster in most parts. The best track though is saved for last with 'One More Drink To Down The Drugs'. A much heavier punk riff, still melodic and damn addictive starts the track with driving drumming and huge screams backing Ryan's vocals. Come to the chorus and it's just as melodic and inspiring as every previous track although reeking of more emotion. It is songs such as this that make melodic punk played by Youthinasia and others alike so bloody addictive and memorable… this is what makes a great CD and Youthinasia has done just that.

The first impression a CD gives you comes from the cover. Sometimes the cover pushes you away as you think its boring, cliché, or just plain stupid; then there are others that grab your attention and make you look at it even further. This is incredibly useful if you are a lesser known band like Youthinasia. Their cover for their latest EP, E.P., gives you a very good first impression. Mocking the hit movie E.T. they have a van and trailer flying across a bright moon. Its a classic cover that would grab anyone's attention as they walk by the punk rock aisle in their local CD store.Luckily, you aren't let down at all once you get past the first impression and actually listen to the CD. The 6 song EP is just over 16 minutes and is full of quick, catchy, melodic, punk rock songs. The production isn't silky smooth like a lot of CDs you hear, its a little grungy and do it yourself style, which makes for a nice change in pace. The vocals are catchy, although a little squeaky at times; they are raw and real, not fake and mastered like a lot of bands we see. They poke fun at today's music scene with The Solution and Same Song, tell a story about a woman who escapes a domestic abuse to move on to prosper independently in Crossing Over and talk about growing up with Jimmy Beaner. The music is just like any upcoming band. Quick, tight, and nothing too complex. The songs are always catchy and fun to listen to, its an EP you can listen to over and over again. The best part of the CD comes around a minute thirty in, where they stop singing Jimmy Beaner and Jarvis starts saying "Accept The Fact That One Day You'll Be An Adult, You'll Grow Ugly And Eventually Be Put In The Earth. Some you love will die. Britney Spears won't sleep with you. There's a good possibility your dreams won't fully materialized. We were born equal and born into inequality. What if I brain wash a hundred of you? You'd call it a cult, let's say I brain wash ten million of you, I'd call it a society." All because it is so abrupt, it catches your attention and makes the already great song, even better.Youthinasia's E.P. is a good melodic punk rock album. It reminds you of what small bands are up to, its not overly polished or fake. Its real and raw, and easy to listen to over and over again.

Once and a while I wonder why I'm doing all this, and then a CD like this one drops in my mailbox. Check out the Canadian band YOUTHINASIA, who on May 25th released their sophomore work entitled "E.P.", produced by Justin Koop (Billy Talent, Finger 11, Silverstein). You can listen or download the first track of this EP at audiostreet.net, although personally I prefer the next few songs of the EP. Melodic punkrock still is my favorite thing I guess.

Catchy pop-punk with a big, beefy sound, witty writing and lead vocals eerily reminiscent to those of Goldfinger. In fact, YIA sound a lot like Goldfinger did way back in the day. If YIA make it, tracks like "Crossing Over" and "Same Song" will get them there.

If you hear YOUTHINASIA, you might think of sunny California. But no, the quartet comes from Canada, but that doesn´t stop them from bringing us some oldschool melody-punk rock. A handful of melodies here. A little touch of ska. More than the same old three chords and a couple of breaks. Kick ass!
